From a Simple Idea
to a Business
In the spring of 2023, what started as a simple fundraising idea quickly grew into something unexpected. As a culinary arts student, I wanted to use my passion for baking to make a difference. My first thought? Chocolate. Using recipes I had learned in class, I began handcrafting chocolate truffles to sell, with all proceeds going to support St. Jude Research Hospital.
Every night, I found myself in the kitchen, stirring melted chocolate and attempting to perfect flavors. The ad I posted on my town’s Facebook page received a great response, far exceeding my expectations. Word-of-mouth spread quickly as neighbors who tasted my chocolates shared their excitement, turning my small project into a success.
Soon, I had surpassed my initial fundraising goal, but I knew I wasn’t ready to stop there. Baking for a cause had become more than just a short-term project. So, I took the next step and turned my small fundraiser into a full-fledged business. And just like that, Tate’s Treats was born.
Today, this bakery is more than a business—it’s a way to give back. Every treat I bake is made with a commitment to supporting those in need. What started as an idea has grown into a shared effort, proving that even small acts of kindness can make a difference.
